DC Bootcamp (Online) FAQs

The training contains 4 Sections based on the following schedule:

• Each Section is structured in the following manner:

• Weekly learning structure and commitment for Week 1 to 4 of each section generally are 
  
  • About 1.5 hours on e-learning contents (asynchronous)  [required]
  • About 1.5 hours on hands-on tasks (asynchronous)  [required]
  • About 2 hours to attend the practical workshops on Friday (synchronous) [Optional]

• Structure of weekly optional synchronous online seminar
  
  The weekly optional synchronous online seminar will typically be conducted as shown in the following table:

Participants will not be required to attend this weekly online seminar. Attendance will not be taken for the seminar.

A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants who fulfilled the following criteria:

a. Completed at least 75% of the e-learning materials as part of the attendance criteria.
b. For each Section, 75% of the Weekly Tasks (3 out of 4 Weekly Tasks) must be submitted with reasonable completeness.
c. Capstone Assignment must be submitted with reasonable completeness.
d. Achieve at least a pass (50%) for Final Quiz.

The Certificate of Completion will be jointly issued by Singapore Polytechnic and Govtech. The certificate will indicate that this course consists of 100 training hours.

• A 100% refund will be available if the withdrawal request is submitted more than or equal to 14 days before the course start date.
• A 50% refund will be available if the withdrawal request is submitted less than 14 days before the course start date.
• No refund will be available if the withdrawal request is submitted after the course start date.
• Failure to complete 75% E-Learning Materials: Should any participant fail to complete at least 75% of e-learning materials, s/he will not receive the Certificate of Completion. Any penalty of fees will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

a.      Hardware

Each participant MUST have a personal or work laptop/desktop with full administrative rights and unrestricted access to the Internet.  This is because participants are required to (a) install software and (b) upload files to SP’s PoliteMall.  Without such a device, the participant will not be able to complete the required tasks required, and thus, he/she will be unable meet the requirements for course completion.

iPads and tablets can be used for viewing the e-learning contents but they are NOT able to replace the laptop/desktop for the mandatory hands-on tasks.  Visualisation software can only be installed on Windows or MacOS.  (Tableau Public can be accessed from both Windows and MacOS but Microsoft’s Power BI can be installed only on Windows.)

GSIB laptops are strongly NOT recommended as such laptops are not able to facilitate file uploads and installation of additional software by the users themselves.

b.     Access to Udemy

The participants MUST ensure they have access to Udemy contents.  Most, but not all public officers, have access to Udemy through CSC Learn App.

c.      Software License

The training can be completed using open-source software (for Python, Data Wrangling, and Machine Learning sections) and free license (for data visualization section).  No paid license is required.

The syllabus and contents are largely the same, with some potential improvements and updates. Participants can also choose their preferred data visualisation tool (Tableau or Power BI) to suit their needs. Data Champions Bootcamp is now hosted by GovTech Digital Academy, in partnership with Singapore Polytechnic as the Learning Partner.

Yes, sessions will be recorded and recordings will be made available to the learners.

The closing date is 14 March 2025. It is a moving date as the registration will close earlier if the capacity has been reached.

It's possible for the first 3 sections. For the last section, it depends on which visualisation tool that you will be using. Power BI is not available on MacOS at the point of writing. It is recommended that you use a Windows laptop/desktop for this course as instructions for installation and usage of the software will be based on the Windows platform.

Participants are recommended to choose the tool that best aligns with your agency’s needs or personal learning goals.

• If your agency uses Power BI exclusively, it's best to select the Power BI course.
• If your agency uses both Tableau and Power BI, you can decide which tool you would like to focus on. Consider what tool you will use most often in your daily tasks.
